Sketch

Inspiration – Prometheus
The American science-fiction horror movie, Prometheus, was an extension from the original film Alien but Prometheus is very different from Alien. Prometheus told a story about a group of scientists seeking for mankind’s origins so they went to find the planet where humanity creator lived. Perhaps it is tricky to wonder who created humanity so in another way, I think of human as a creator who created robots. Not so far from the future, I can see eventually human will make robot “alive” by fully developing artificial intelligence but there are so many accidents we can never predict. Suppose humanity was created by God but did God ever expect human to be homosexuals. Similarly, what surprises or even dangers robots can bring us? We do not have an answer.
My sketch was inspired by the statue of David made by Michelangelo. I drew the laser in order to clarify the object’s identity, “robot”, because only robots (or anything mechanical) can project laser. In the sketch, the robot killed a rose which represents something natural. Since robot is artificial instead of natural but human is natural, I intend to portray the potential hostility robots have towards the natural. However, my purpose for this project is not warning people should be negatively cautious about robots or technology — I warmly want to share a question with everyone. Moreover, my major is actually related to artificial intelligence so I am curious about both humanity and technology.
It is my second time to create human face by cinema 4D (my first time is Looming, see my post) so I do feel more comfortable this time. Additionally, I added some lines to my sketch so those lines helped me a lot to adjust the face. However, currently, I only get a bit better at portraying the front face, and I still have some trouble in the side face so I only showed the front face.
Since I was inspired by a science-fiction film, I also added science-fiction elements to my project such as laser and a science-fiction background. After rendering, I brightened my image because the brightening can add up holiness and mystery.
