Anthropogenic Stalactites – Phantom

Phantom

I used two objects from my classmate Julia — perfume bottle and lipstick. I used two objects of mine — stapler and rose brooch. I split the rose to several rose petals and put lipstick next to the petal. Hence, I changed the color of several petals to metallic red and a few petals remain golden so it looks like some petals are tinted by the lipstick. Overall, the combination of rose petals and lipstick creates a sense of space and movement.

At first, I wanted to continue a glassy and an illuminating environment so I rendered Figure 2. However, later on, I was inspired by a German heavy metal band called Rammstein, especially the song Ich Will, so I came up with Figure 1. After listening to Ich Will, I was spellbound by the spectral genre so I decided to make the environment darker and to concentrate most lights on rose petals. I also improved details in Figure 1: in corners, there are some small reflections of the perfume bottle and rose petals.

Inspiration — Rammstein

5 Objects Rendered

It is a coincidence that one of my objects is a rose brooch and the stapler I made looks like a mini coffin. Therefore, I decide to bury my rose brooch in the stapler coffin (I resized the rose brooch to fit into the stapler). Since parts of the stapler are transparent, I set a glassy environment to make a moony environment.

I was inspired by a Chinese literature called Dream of the Red Chamber, written in the Qing Dynasty. There is a poem saying, “The flower was buried by the cold moon.” Although it has a taste of decadent sadness, it predicts the character’s destiny. In some way, the destiny has already been written and it is unchangeable. It also reminds me, in the Greek mythology, Achilles had been notified that he was doomed if he went to Troy, but still he went to Troy and was killed by Paris. When I was younger, I felt pity after reading those stories. However, recently, when I read the book again, I think they are brave because they have the courage to accept their destiny.
